Evam: Forum on Indian Representations
An Annual Journal

Evam takes as its starting point the absence of any major journal that deals with India holistically, both with its past and its present, with its culture and imagination, with inner and outer dimensions. Most existing journals are too specialized to engage with subcontinent and its civilization except in a fragmentary manner. Evam wishes to redress this gap by considering as its scope the very meaning or idea of India along with its material and concrete manifestations.

More specifically, the Forum wishes to interrogate, analyze, and reorient various representations of India. In doing so, it wants to re-present India in a manner that is more meaningful and persuasive.

It especially wishes to devote itself to a whole gamut of meta issues that pertain to India including:

  • Historiography

  • Political Theory

  • History and Philosophy of Science

  • History of Ideas

  • Traditions and Traditional Knowledge Systems

  • Alternatives to Development

  • Cinema, Television, and Mass Culture

  • Folk and Non-Elite Thought and Culture

  • The Indian Diaspora

  • Spiritual Traditions

  • Literary and Critical Production

  • Art and Aesthetics

  • Mind and Consciousness Studies

  • Cross Cultural Relations

  • And so on.

The journal is guided by an international editorial advisory board. The members are:

Arpana Caur (New Delhi); Arvind Sharma (McGill University, Montreal, Canada); Asghar Ali Engineer (CSSS, Mumbai); Ashis Nandy (CSDS, New Delhi); Ashok D. Ranade (Mumbai); Braj B.
